Mr. Miyagi Says Wax Off

It's about to get really personal up in here,
as in, y'all might think I'm cray cray for letting you in on this little secret of mine.

{kidding} #capthat
My name is Sarah and I wax.

I'm in my mid-twenties and I've asked many of my girlfriends if
they wax. I was shocked to hear that I was in the minority.
I started waxing a little over two years ago and I absolutely love it.
They say 'once you wax you don't go back.'
actually, no one says that but I do and it's true!

There are so many perks to getting waxed versus shaving.
Numero uno being no razor burn.
Hello. We've all been there.
Rush job turns into bumps which = nasty bikini line. ew
Another reason to wax is because you only have to do it once a month.
Once you've done it a few times, it takes the hair longer to grow back....
and it comes in soft. {this may be tmi, but it's fact}

About two and a half years ago I randomly googled brazilian waxing here in town
and one of the first places that popped up was the amazingly cute salon that
I still go to today. It's designed with a pin-up theme and it's super girly so it definitely gets an A in my book.
They hosted the lingerie party I was at last weekend.

One of the things I'm gonna miss most about Richmond is this place.
Luckily I became really close friends with the girl whose been waxing me the longest,
so I'll be flying her down every once in a while ;)

Anyway, back to the waxing.
Most of my friends say their biggest reason for not going
is fear of pain. The other is not wanting to just leave it all hanging out there
for someone else to see.

Here's how I look at it.
If you do your research and go to a good salon, the pain will be
minimal because they know what they're doing. It all depends on what type of wax
they use and the technique. Now I'm not saying it won't hurt, because it does.
The first time I ever had it done was probably the most painful. After that it gets easier.
Plus there are a few things that most places probably don't tell you before you come in, like....
no caffeine the morning of your appointment
{It heightens your nerve senses and makes it pretty much unbearable}
take advil about an hour before your appointment
{this doesn't take the pain away but it sure does lessen it!}
exfoliate exfoliate exfoliate

and if you're still a little nervous, you can always buy numbing cream....
but I've never had to even come close to needing that stuff.
remember the numb nuts?

If you're one that's concerned about someone looking at your
biz-nass then think of it this way-
you're 1 out of how many vajays they are seeing that day.
it's kind of like the gyno...except not.

My biff Audrey, aka stylist, waxer, and my main bish said she would be happy
to answer any questions you guys might have. Trust me, she knows her ish.
I'm getting her to make me a list of questions to ask salons when I move, cause she's awesome like that....and let's be real, I'm not entrusting just anyone with my little treasure box ;)

Anyway, leave your questions below or send me an email with anything you want to know
and next time I get with her I'll get y'all some answers. Heck, y'all may even be lucky
enough to get a vlog.

So, if you've managed to stick around this long I'm sure you think I'm totally crazy
for talking about something so personal on my blog. I obviously don't think it's a big deal, otherwise I wouldn't have put it up for y'all to see. So.....thoughts! And don't forget to leave your questions below :)
xoxo.

I wax my underarms, normally, but with being pregnant the pain is just crazy bad! Before it felt like nothing and now it feels like they're ripping off my skin instead of just the strip. So once the baby comes out, I'm waxing again and hopefully trying out the bikini area, cause girrrrl I could use it. There's no good way to get around this belly! :(

"She wax it alllllll off, Mr. Miyagi." Hahaha, love this post, seriously. I've always wanted to try waxing and have been too scared and embarrassed! I should do some research and find a good place in my city. Once a month sounds like heaven to me... How much does it usually cost? I know every place is different but I feel like it's expensive... another reason I haven't seriously looked into it.

Do a VLOG!

You little porcupine! hahaha
I've been waxed twice and I liked it, but I didn't want to pay to keep up with it. Lately, I have been considering switching to waxing regularly because let's face it - shaving is a pain the ass!

Hey girl! Audrey the waxing queen at your service! During pregnancy yes, waxing is more painful BUT strip wax is ALWAYS more painful! Here at bombshell we use what's called HARD wax. The wax itself hardens and it more so drink wraps the hair unlike strip wax which adheres to both the skin and hair. Give us a call 342-0051

I love waxing. I had a post similar to this up, but because of a potential job, I took it down. You will have to check it out after I put it back up!

I got Brazilians regularly for almost 4 years or so. I stopped at the beginning of 2010 after a few bad waxes and hearing one even worse story from a friend.

No need to get into full detail but readers be warned, please please PLEASE make sure you are waxed at a sanitary and trained location! No asian nail salons, no double dipping, etc.

My issues were temporary and involved raw skin. My friend was not so lucky and contracted herpes from a former waxer who touched her face before/in the middle of waxing. Be attentive, watch your waxer!

Because of Lindsay's story is the reason I don't want to try it.

I've been wanting to try waxing for so long, and I just never suck it up and schedule an appointment! I think this post just gave me the push to go for it! I got my eyebrows waxed for the first time a few months ago, and it wasn't nearly as bad as I was thinking it would be. So hopefully it'll be a similar experience? Fingers crossed!

I love that you posted about this!! I have wondered about waxing for a few years but am nervous about it. And I don't really know anyone who does it. I also don't know if I want to pay for it, I'm cheap! haha but now I am curious again and may look into it.

This post made me laugh... I love that you had the guts to post it!! A ton of my friends get waxed and love it, but I haven't gone because I'm scared. But this makes me less scared... so maybe I will just have to go for it!

Haha I just can't do it. I'm pretty open aboutmy body, but having someone up in my vajay-jay does not sound appealing. Luckily, i rarely get razorburn,so shaving is NBD. You are too funny!
