Let's Talk

Beauty-
product reviews

over the weekend I went to my favorite beauty store, Ulta, to look for some shampoo.
My hair is kind of funny. It's thick but it looks like it's thin.
Cray cray.
anyway, I'm always looking for the next best thing to use for volume. I've tried almost every brand you could think of. Awhile back Dove came out with a volumizing shampoo and I fell in love. After the first wash I could tell a huge difference. Of course, after I ran out, they discontinued it and I haven't been able to find anything else like it since.

I talked a bit ago about how I started using the Big Sexy brand of styling products.
If you missed that, you can catch it here.
I love them! They give my hair so much volume and I definitely get more compliments when I use it. Lucky for me, they had the huge liters on sale and I got 2 for the price of 1. I decided to try their Extra Volume Shampoo and their Volumizing Conditioner.

Verdict- not a fan.
I washed my hair with this for the first time today and I was not impressed.
First off, the shampoo reeked! It had such a strong chemical smell...no bueno.
Luckily the conditioner didn't smell bad and it was able to cover the odor of the shampoo.
I was expecting to notice a difference in my hair after I styled it but I definitely didn't.
I went on like normal using my styling products and it looks the same it does everyday.

So my question for you guys is what brand of shampoo have y'all found to be good for volume?
thanks so much!!
xoxo.

I love, love, love Pureology! It's a little more on the expensive side but a little goes a long way and it's totally worth it. My hairdresser kept telling me to use it but the price always steered me towards something else. I finally gave in about 2 years ago and it's all I use now! I swear by the stuff and it has made me a believer that you really get what you pay for when it comes to haircare...it's worth it! I promise!

cray cray! HAHA!
it sounds like we have the same hair type... i really love my joico! it's a little pricey but worth it and lasts forever! i bought the big bottles for $30 a piece about 6 months ago and still have half the bottles left!

I just wish they made conditioner bottles bigger. I mean... we ALWAYS run out of it first 'cause it's thicker! hellooooo.

Have you tried their "tease in a can"? I like it! All the bump of teasing your hair without actually damaging it.

I love Yes to Tomato Volumizing Shampoo. I'm always looking for something to give me an extra umph, and this seems to be it!!

Good luck!

Don't you just hate when you buy a shampoo and it turns out being horrible? Drives me nuts! I use John Frida (sp?) Frizz Ease! I had the worst time finding a shampoo that worked for me and this one finally has- I'm a big fan of their other products too! Let us know what you pick!

I have super thin hair with NO volume, unless I use loads of product. My mom and sister are both stylists (not that you could tell from my hair) and I have tried everything! Pureology is by far the best I have used. It is expensive, even with the hair stylist discount, so I use it for "special" days and use Big Sexy for my "regular" days. Big Sexy mouse is really great for volume & so is Bed Head Superstar blow-drying lotion. : )

i use a ton of root pump. i like big sexy's root pump and redken's root pump called "guts". i also like the redken line shampoo...the one for volumizing. it is in a green bottle. i swear by it. it's good to change up your shampoo too so your hair doen't get too comfortable with one product.

I feel like I used this Suave shampoo once that gave my hair a lot of volume, but I can't remember exactly which one.

Sorry to hear about the Big Sexy Hair shampoo :(

I tried their brand for straight hair, and it was awful! It again had that gross chemical smell and gave my hair a terrible texture! My mom loves the Aussie Volumizing Shampoo, and will sometimes switch between that and Garnier Fructis Body Boost!

I always get the huge size shampoo/conditioners too! But only after I fell in love with Biolage. I seriously can not compliment them enough, it's a.w.e.s.o.m.e. for every type of hair!
It's kind of expensive, but if you can you should check it out!

I'd love to hear what you come up with! I have thin hair, and I can't use any product on it - it just flakes off and makes me look like I have dandruff. Any volume I get has to come either from the shampoo/conditioner, excessive blowdrying (which I HATE) or teasing (which is so damaging). Grrrr!

I've used the Big Sexy Hair products too and was less than impressed. My hair is fine, not exactly thin, but almost like a baby's hair. Weird, I know. I thought the Big Sexy products left my hair feeling almost waxy? Didn't like it.
I'm a big fan of Redken prodcuts. I always have some kind of color in my hair too and Redken's color treatment products - shampoo and others - are fab!
